REACH Information – Discontinuation of Cr6-containing passivation Alodine 1500

Initial situation:
In agreement with the Federal Office for the Environment, Polymeca was informed on 6th April 2023 that the EU authorization REACH/20/18/21-27 will expire on 21st September 2024 and that the single notification according to section 3 Annex 1.17 ORRChem with reference to application ID 32-05 (chromating) is affected.
On 20th April 2023, the European Court of Justice annulled the EU Commission’s decision on this authorization. It is still valid in the EU until 20th April 2024 at the latest.

What does it mean for Polymeca:
For the revoked authorization (ECHA No. 0032-05), it should be noted that Swiss companies will no longer be able to rely on it from 20th April 2024 !
The possibilities of continuing to obtain authorization for the process, e.g. through an exemption, exceed Polymeca’s economic and organizational resources and are disproportionate in terms of cost and benefit.

What does it mean for customers:
Due to the legal uncertainties, Polymeca will no longer be able to offer the Alodine 1500 process as a service from the end of March 2024.
As an alternative, Polymeca can recommend the Cr6-free passivation process SurTec650, which will continue to be available from Polymeca.
